Chiropractic Adjustments: A Life Line to Health

Chiropractic is a natural method of health care that focuses on correcting the causes of problems, rather that just treating the symptoms.  A normally functioning spine and nerve signaling system allows the body to be able to heal itself.  Every cell in the body is dependent upon a functional nerve communication relay system. 

Nerve interference
The chiropractic approach to better health is to locate and remove interferences (misaligned spinal vertebrae, cranial bone distortions, soft tissue abberant signals) to your nervous system.  The goal of the chiropractic physician is to remove interference that may be impairing normal health through highly skilled chiropractic adjustments to the areas of need.  This could be a spinal joint or a cranial fault or perhaps a muscle or tendon nerve receptor that is firing back to the spine & brain creating distant pain in the arm, leg or even an organ dysfunction. 

Interference diagnosis
At the Center for Well Being, the doctor uses a variety of diagnostic skills to identify where the interference is coming from, and how to release it.  The doctor has been using advanced muscle testing (kinesiology) to facilitate this process.  A pin point diagnosis can accelerate the best treatment method, and this can lead to a faster resolution of the health problem.  The doctor may also need to take x-rays or a MRI / CT scan to get more information in some patients.

The Chiropractic Adjustment
A chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is misaligned (subluxated), "locked up", or not moving properly.  The purpose of this safe and easy procedure is to eliminate the interference to the nervous system. This adjustment can be accomplished with the doctor's hands or with special hand-held devices.  The adjustments given in our office are gentle and easy to receive.  The doctors have built a good reputation amongst their patients with the style and comfort of these adjustments.

Ancillary treatment to the adjustment
The muscle testing diagnosis will often reveal a misfiring muscle, tendon, fascia or ligament nerve receptor that needs to be reset.  This is accomplished be applying various methods of pressure, massage or active release to the affected tissue.  This can release the nerve interference signal back to the central nervous system, and thus increase the healing response and pain reduction.  In many cases the doctor will also do a cranial 'adjustment' with the same goal in mind.  These are unlike the spinal or extremity adjustments and are also gentle to receive.  Dr. Mayfield is currently the only doctor of chiropractic in the Twin Cities that offers the BioCranial method.
